Boasting a field of over 60 entries, with categories for both rally cars and off-road racers, the Event was held over 2 days, with Heats on Saturday evening under lights, and the finals on Sunday afternoon .
Glenney described the track layout as “nuts“, with 14 corners, 2 jumps, and a huge drop over the concrete fence into the Stadium, all in a 1.3 km lap. But the most challenging issue was the 4 distinctively different surfaces; clay, dirt, tarmac, and concrete.
The 2015 Australian 4WD rally champion, Marcus Walkem also put up a fine display, with a second place in the unrestricted rally car class.
The five-car Grand Final was a thriller. Glenney judged the start perfectly, having saved a set of soft DZ03G Dunlops for the Final. He launched strongly from the second row of the grid, and forced his way into second place out of the first corner. The joker lap then came into play, and a string of fastest laps saw the Australian pull away for a well-judged victory.
The Trans Tasman Cup amazingly resulted in a tie for points between Australians Glenney and Walkem, and the top two points scorers from the host country New Zealand . Both Australians competed on the preferred DUNLOP rubber; Whilst Steve used the reliable DUNLOP DZ03G on 17" rims, Walkem chose the new DZ92R rubber on 15" rims.
