Tarmac rally ace Jim Richards has claimed his first victory aboard the new Porsche Cayman S in only the second attempt in the mid-engine sports car.

Jim has chosen the DUNLOP Sport Maxx Race tyre for his new Porsche. Produced in Germany and fitted to some of the most powerful versions of the German marque, the Sport Maxx Race is a street legal race tyre that also behaves on the street.

Richards and co-driver Barry Oliver experienced heart-ache after failing to finish May's Targa Tasmania rally, clipping a fence post on the second-to-last day while leading their class.

The experienced duo needed only one further rally, last weekend's Quit Targa West, to capture class victory in the Porsche.

Richards' Cayman S placed first in the production-based Outright Showroom class and was the top-ranked two-wheel-drive car at the conclusion of the four-day Perth-based event.

“The event went very well for us. The Cayman S performed fantastically, especially on the roads that consisted mainly of fast, flowing, third-to-fourth gear corners. The car ran faultlessly and again, it was a dream to drive,” said Richards.

“The roads were probably a little faster than in Targa Tasmania and the stages were shorter; the longest stage was probably around 12 km. It was great to come out of the rally as the top placed two-wheel-drive car and we were rapt to take out the Showroom class among some competitive rivals.”

Richards will next campaign the Porsche Cayman S at Targa High Country on November 07-09, 2014, an event based around the Victorian alpine region of Mount Buller.
