Classic Outright winners Rex Broadbent & Chris Randell

Classic Handicap winners Paul & Mike Batten

The 2010 Targa Tasmania Classic Outright class has been won convincingly by Victorian, Rex Broadbent, who produced a near faultless drive in a 1974 Porsche 911 RS. Ably navigated by veteran Chris Randell, Rex finished a massive 11 minutes 52 seconds ahead of second place Barry Faux in a Mazda RX7. In third was George Pethard in his Porsche 911. All three placegetters were using the dominant DUNLOP DZ03G tyre. In fact 7 of the top 10 cars also used the DUNLOP rubber.

Melbourne driver, Paul Batten (also on the dominant DUNLOP rubber), secured the Classic Handicap title with a superb performance in his 1961 Volvo PV544 across the 504 competitive kilometres. In wet, cold and foggy conditions on the final day in Tasmania's west coast, the Volvo won the first three stages outright, including defeating both Porsches on the 56 kilometre Mt Arrowsmith by nearly a minute. Ably navigated by his father (and car owner) Mike batten, Paul finished 10 minutes and 50 seconds ahead of second placed Peter Ulrich in his Jensen CV8. In the Handicap class 8 of the top 10 cars also used DUNLOP tyres.

Tasmanian Tony Warren was the dominant force in the Showroom competition droving his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX to a one minute and 45 second victory - his second in three years. Tony also used the DUNLOP DZ03G tyres.

Local driver Jason White has triumphed in the modern section to add a second Targa Tasmania title to his collection. Driving his Lamborghini Gallardo Super Trofeo Strada, White and his co-driving uncle, John White, led from start to finish to claim a 63 second win ahead of Queenslander Ray Vandersee in a Skelta G-Force, with Tony Quinn third in a Nissan GT-R two minutes 30 seconds further back. Whilst DUNLOP do not yet have the unique sizes required for the Lamborghini supercar, 6 cars in the top 10 used the dominant DUNLOP tyres in this class.

Once again the DUNLOP DZ03G was the overwhelming favourite choice for competitors. This is due to its phenominal performance in both cold & wet and warm & dry conditions. In the popular MODERN class DUNLOP tyres were chosen by 49% of all competitors (Toyo 16%, Kumho 12%, Bridgestone 9% and Yokohama 9%).
